July Member Spotlight – Tory Holderby

We are proud to announce Tory Holderby as July’s Member Spotlight! Tory and her husband, Terry, joined the gym a year ago and have been rock solid ever since. If you haven’t seen their son Will make his appearance into the gym it’s something you should try to schedule!

What made you want to begin your fitness journey at Dissent Athletics?
Tory: Terry and I have been doing functional fitness for about 8 years and last summer our previous gym closed so we started looking for a new place to be fit :).  We visited Dissent for a week and really liked it so we stayed and happy we did!  I love functional fitness!  I enjoy the community and accountability in doing classes with people and the variety in exercises, there is always something you’re good at and always something that is a challenge.

Tell us a little about your family!
Tory: Terry and I both grew up in Missouri and met in college there (University of Missouri – Rolla).  We got married in 2010, moved to Texas in 2011, and then to Arlington where we currently are in 2013. We have a dog, Rubix, who is 10 years old and a Shepherd mix.  We also have a son, William, who is almost 3.  All of our extended family lives in Missouri and Wisconsin so we are the only ones that live in Texas.

What do you do for work?
Tory: I am an engineer and I work for Alcon.  I do new product design and development for eye surgery equipment and implantables.

What do you do in your free time?
Tory: Workout of course!!  We are also pretty involved in our church, First Baptist Mansfield.  Other than that I love summer, and I would spend all day reading books by the pool if I could.

Do you have any current goals in the gym? Anything you’ve already achieved or didn’t think was possible in the beginning?
Tory: My goal is sustainable fitness in general.  Every once in a while I will get motivated with specific goals of things to work on.  Recently I just finished a 9 week strength cycle for front squats and power cleans and gained 20 lbs. on my front squat max which I am pretty excited about!!
